Microwave Raku

Microwave firing pottery ceramics how to

In 2020 I found that I could use my Microwave glass fusing kiln to fire and glaze ceramics that fit in the little chamber! This was perfect for my little throws and handbuilt items and inspired my Microwave Raku bugs, baubles, vases!

I've found that metalic raku glazes still work in the microwave (where you'd normally avoid any metal going in!) as the microwave kiln insultes it so well. And horse hair and standard glazing is still possible.

If bisquing the microwave try small pieces first. Thin pin badges or earrings are much easier to know are bone dry compared to a vase you've worked on just to pop! And the smaller kiln you can purchase heats up much quicker and easier than the wider one.
